About Us

I opened Doodlepots in November 2004.The idea to open the studio came from a visit to a similar one during a family holiday in 2003. F rom the start it has been a family-run, family-orientated business in which we seek to share our creative passions with others. My daughter Rachel was my first full-time helper, but she has now married and moved to Switzerland. I now have the help of Bridget, Hannah, Sam, Debbie, Sophie and Megan who are all thoroughly efficient and I really couldn't do without them!

The Team

We have been so encouraged over the past 2 years to find so many of our customers, both locals and tourists, come back for return visits and it's great to see them grow in confidence with each visit. So many people think they aren't creative when they start and it's a joy to see their pride in what they've achieved after a little bit of help and encouragement. It's always exciting for us to open the kiln and see the amazing results of people's handiwork.

As a Christian, I was aware that there were very few places in Whitby where a Bible could be purchased so I took the opportunity, when I opened Doodlepots, to reserve a small corner of the studio for the sale of Christian books and Bibles. I'm grateful to the bookshops in Middlesborough and Scarborough for their help with this part of the business.

One of our young customers, Georgina, wrote this message on our blackboard - I think it says it all!
